Orchid Care for Beginners

Orchid Care for Beginners

Phalaenopsis orchids are easier than their reputation suggests.

Light

Bright, indirect light. East-facing window is ideal.

Watering

Once a week — 15–20 seconds under gentle running water. Drain completely. Every 10–14 days in winter.

Humidity

50–70%. Pebble tray, grouping plants, or light misting helps.

Feeding

Balanced orchid fertilizer at half strength, monthly in spring/summer.

After Blooms Fall

Don't discard the plant! Cut the spike above the second node. New spike often emerges within 2–3 months.

Repotting

Every 1–2 years in orchid bark mix. Choose pots with drainage holes.
