Accessibility Statement

Last updated: January 1, 2025

Greensleeves Florist is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or the technology they use. We believe that all people deserve equal access to our products and services, and we are continually working to improve the accessibility of our online experience.

1. Our Commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines are developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and provide a framework for making web content accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.

2. Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following features to improve accessibility across our website:

Keyboard Navigation

  • All interactive elements are reachable using the keyboard alone.
  • Visible focus indicators are present on all focusable elements, so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page.
  • Logical tab order follows the visual layout of each page.
  • Modal dialogues trap focus appropriately and return focus to the trigger element when closed.

Screen Reader Support

  • All pages use semantic HTML5 elements (headings, landmarks, lists) to communicate structure to assistive technology.
  • ARIA labels and descriptions are used where native HTML semantics are insufficient.
  • Dynamic content updates (such as cart changes and form validation errors) are announced to screen readers using appropriate ARIA live regions.
  • Decorative images are marked with empty alt text so screen readers skip them.

Images and Media

  • All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text (“alt text”) that conveys their purpose and context.
  • Product photography includes descriptive alt text naming the arrangement type, primary flowers, and colours.

Colour and Contrast

  • Text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
  • Colour is never used as the only means of conveying information.

Forms

  • All form fields have visible labels that remain visible when a field is in focus.
  • Required fields are clearly identified.
  • Error messages are specific, descriptive, and displayed adjacent to the field in error.

Motion and Animation

  • We respect the “prefers-reduced-motion” browser preference. Users who have enabled reduced motion in their operating system settings will experience reduced or eliminated animations.

3. Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we acknowledge that some areas of our website may not yet fully meet this standard. Known limitations include:

  • Some third-party embedded content (such as maps or payment widgets) may have accessibility limitations that are outside our direct control. We work with providers who take accessibility seriously and report issues to them when identified.
  • Older PDF documents (such as care guides) may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these. If you need the content of any PDF in an accessible format, please contact us.

We actively test our website with assistive technologies including screen readers and automated accessibility scanning tools, and we prioritise resolving issues as they are identified.

4. Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Voice control: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control (macOS/iOS)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of functionality

We recommend using the latest version of your browser and assistive technology for the best experience.

5. How to Report an Issue

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please let us know so we can address it promptly.

When reporting an issue, it helps to tell us:

  • The page URL where you encountered the issue.
  • A description of the problem and what you were trying to do.
  • The assistive technology, browser, and device you were using.

We aim to acknowledge all accessibility reports within 2 business days and provide a resolution or workaround within 10 business days.

6. Alternative Access

If you are unable to access any part of our website due to a disability, we are happy to assist you by phone or email. Our staff can take your order over the phone, read product descriptions to you, and help you navigate any part of our service.
